How to Report Suspected Abuse

We at Holy Family strive to create a safe and supervised environment for our children.  We commit ourselves to keeping vigilant for the welfare of our children, youth and in fact all our parishioners.  To that end, in accordance with diocesan Child Protection policies, EVERY employee and volunteer on Holy Family campus is required to do three things.  The first is to complete and submit forms for a background check, the second is to attend a VIRTUS training session and the third to sign a code of conduct form.

VIRTUS training sessions are held in different parishes throughout the Diocese.  The schedule for these sessions is available on-line.  Go to www.drvc.org and follow the links for VIRTUS online to register for a session that is convenient for you.  The schedule is also published weekly in the Long Island Catholic. If you have a problem registering on-line, please call Tara in the Parish Center (938-3846 Ext. 302). Upon completion of your session, a copy of your certificate must be handed in to Tara in the parish office.  Background check forms and Code of Conduct forms are available in the Parish Center.

These procedures are set in place as proof of our parish’s and your own personal commitment to address the conditions that have contributed to the creation of an environment in which the abuse of children can occur.

What should I do if I suspect a child is being abused?

If you or someone you know has experienced an incident of sexual abuse by clergy, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, please contact law enforcement and the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People.

The office maintains a special phone for these situations: 516-594-9063.
